An evening in November saw a wonderful occasion at St Luke’s when Bishop Martyn came to a very special service. Five young people and four adults from Thurnby and Houghton were confirmed in a ceremony that saw them stand and confirm their faith in Jesus, and renew the vows made at their baptisms. The congregation, which included friends and relatives of the candidates heard two of the young people speak about their faith, and tell why they wanted to be confirmed.

Then the church family vowed to uphold the candidates on their life in Christ. At the end of the service, they were all given a lighted candle and Bishop Martyn led them outside the church to symbolise them taking the light of Christ into the world. It was such a wonderful evening of encouragement and joy, for those confirmed and everyone else who was there.
