From June, we’re inviting Year 6 young people to join us at Connect on Friday nights in the Thurnby Memorial Hall. As a drop-in youth group, “Connect” is open on term-time Fridays from 7.30pm until 9pm. The group meets in the Thurnby Memorial Hall with a charge of £2 per session, per person to go towards the hire cost of the hall. We also have a tuck shop available with items priced from 2p to £1.

The evening normally involves games and space to relax as well as occasional trips or film nights. We have table tennis tables, a pool table, plenty of board games, a Wii console and many other activities. The club is operated by myself alongside a team of volunteers from St Luke’s Church, all of whom have completed the necessary safeguarding and DBS checks.

We will be opening the group up to current Year 6 students from half-term. It gives them the opportunity to get to know other young people from the area in a safe space, to let off some steam after a busy week and to ease the transition to high school. The dates for this term are: 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th June.

The group operates as a drop-in service. We are responsible for the wellbeing of the young people once they are in the building and they are required to sign in when they arrive and pay the entry fee. We ask for an emergency contact number and any medical information we might need to know while they are in our care. They do not need to be dropped off or picked up by a parent, but they need to bring this emergency contact information otherwise they cannot attend.

As a drop in, they are welcome to leave at any point and are responsible for getting themselves home or being picked up by a parent/guardian. If you would like any specific arrangements to be made in addition (such as being notified when your child leaves the session or requiring your child to stay until you arrive), please let me know in person or by email and I’d be more than happy to sort this.
