Cornerstone Churches Day of Prayer

Details of the Cornerstone Churches Day of Prayer

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Romans 12:12

Life in a local church is marked by a deep joy because of the hope we have in Jesus, but also by an ongoing endurance through much that can be difficult. How do we remain joyful and patient? By being faithful in prayer.

We’re asking everyone to set aside time on Wednesday 17th September to praise God, thank Him, and pray for what’s to come in the life of our churches as part of the Cornerstone Churches Day of Prayer.

Some may wish to include fasting—voluntarily giving up food (or other good things) to use that time for prayer and letting hunger remind us of our dependence on God.

During the day you might find it helpful to:

  • Set aside specific times for prayer.

  • Join a prayer gathering: 7am at Café Fifty Five, 12pm online, 3pm at St Mary’s (Stoughton), 7.30pm at St Catharine’s (Houghton).

  • Use the prayer points below or download them here.

  • Pray through each line of the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Let Romans 12 or another Bible passage shape your prayers.

  • Thank God for specific people in each of the churches, giving thanks for them and praying for them.

Cornerstone Churches Day of PrayeR - prayer points:

The Cornerstone Team of Churches

  • Praise God for our growing partnership in the gospel and for wisdom and discernment from the Holy Spirit for our future partnership with Hope Hamilton.

  • To see new disciples of Jesus and mature disciples of Jesus in ever increasing number.

Living Hope Church, Thurmaston

  • Growth of our church family and the opportunity to make contact with new people from the area.

  • A continued growth of our identity as Living Hope Church and further development of a healthy gospel culture.

  • As we feel a new phase of Living Hope is upon us we need God to guide us clearly with where He wants Living Hope to go both in the short term and the longer term.

St Catharine's Church, Houghton

  • For the Lord to break in spiritually and powerfully in Houghton, bringing people to Jesus.

  • For the re-ordering project to move forward and begin work in 2026.

  • For Explore to grow in number and for those who come regularly to know Jesus as Lord.

St Luke's Church, Thurnby

  • This term, as we spend time in 1 Corinthians, pray that we would not be divided by any of our differences but united in our boast in Christ crucified.

  • Give thanks that we are a church of every generation and ask that we would continue to reach the next generation with the good news of Jesus.

  • Ask the Lord to enlarge our heart for the nations, that we would be a church reaching people of different nationalities and sending and supporting gospel work in different nations.

  • That we would grow to give away, with the Holy Spirit cultivating a joyful generosity and helping us identify future opportunities.

Cafe Fifty Five, Thurnby

  • Ask that Café Fifty Five would continue to live out being a place of welcome and community, help and hope for all.

  • Give thanks for all the evangelistic opportunities in the café this term and pray that through them many would hear and respond to Jesus.

St Mary's Church, Stoughton

  • For growing contact and connection with people living in the village and for the Lord to add two more people/households to our number.

  • To be a place of peace on busy road junction.
