Serving at St Luke's

Baptism at St Luke's Church, Thurnby

On Sunday we had the joy of 4 baptisms and hearing from 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 that:

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”

Through the Holy Spirit followers of Jesus are one body made up of many parts and we need our many parts in order to be one body.

Each of us has been given gifts by the Holy Spirit to strengthen our life together as we seek to make mature disciples of Jesus in ever-increasing numbers.

Our gifts are different, but every one of them matters. The ways we serve will vary, but we are all encouraged to use what we have been given in the best way we can.

Many of you are already serving at St Luke's in many ways - but it might be time to pray through what you’re involved with. Others of you are newer to St Luke’s and this is your chance to get plugged in.

As you consider how you might serve, here are three helpful questions to reflect on:

  1. Where are the greatest needs in church life, and how can I help?

  2. Which areas of church life excite me most?

  3. Where do others in the church think I might serve well?

There are ten areas of church life that represent much of what happens at St Luke’s. We would love to see more people involved in each area — and even more importantly, to see every member grow as they serve.
