Summer Sunday Evenings

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

What is happening on the different Sunday evenings during August

With the first Sunday in August approaching our 6:30pm service is back after a few weeks' break. During the month of August our Sunday evening services will look a bit different and we'd love to invite you to come along whether you are a regular in the evening or have never been before.

Sunday 6th August - an evening of prayer led for us by Maggie and Pauline.

Sunday 13th August - our first set of ignition talks - 5 minute Bible talks from people in the church community who have never given a talk at church before.

Sunday 20th August - a worship evening - a time of extended singing, praise and prayer.

Sunday 27th August - a second set of ignition 5 minute Bible talks.

Ignition 13th and 27th August 6:30pm

There are still a couple of spaces for anyone who has not yet put their hand up to give an ignition talk.

Ignition is a space to fan into flame the gift that God has place in us and gives the opportunity for 3 or 4 people each evening to give a 5 minute Bible talks.

The only qualifications for having a go are that you are a follower of Jesus and have never given a talk before at St Luke's.

If that's you we want you to hear five commitments from us to help you take part:

1) You won't be the only one - our plan is for 3 to 4 people to speak on each evening. 2) One of us will meet up with you to help you choose a passage and shape your talk. 3) You will get a rehearsal to get a feel for things. 4) You will get lots of positive and encouraging feedback. 5) We will be praying for you lots.

If you'd like to add your name to those who have already said they'd like to have a go we'd love to hear from you in the next few days. And if you're not quite sure this is what two others have said about taking part in an Ignition Sunday at another church.

"Ignition was an empowering opportunity to speak about God, to share with others a personal story very close to my heart, and to have a 5-minute taste of what it means to speak at church on a Sunday." "Doing an ignition talk was great fun! It was challenging to do a whole talk in only 5 minutes but it was so encouraging to see how God can use a short talk for huge things."

If you'd like to have a go (even if it feels well out of your comfort zone) get in touch with Tom (tom@thurnbychurch.com or 07817435483).
